Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) have followed our example and purchased agricultural land with the purpose of returning it to nature and allowing wildlife to "regenerate, spread and thrive". We, admittedly have only 11 acres, whilst the Bere Regis site is 420 acres (170ha in new money), but the principle is the same. Take some underused, unproductive or obsolete land and do something glorious with it. Read the Press Release here. Listening to the radio this morning, there was a report on the future shortage of farmers willing to farm the land. With the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proving unsustainable Post-Brexit, there may be an opportunity for conservationists and like-minded people to purchase available agricultural land for the purpose of regeneration (seemingly the current, and less contentious, word for rewilding). There may be many more Squire's Downs in years to come.
